Q. When I edit a Client's Markup rate, it's not reflected in the Print and Production Estimates I've filed. Why?
A. CurrentTrack's Estimates, like many of its other forms, record the Markup rate at the time of its creation. If that weren't the case and you were to edit the Markup rate at a later time, all previously filed documents would become inaccurate. In order for your Estimate to bear the new Markup rate, you'll need to create a new Estimate under the same job. You can then go back into the [job] Documents Folder and delete the "old" Estimate.Q. Our Vendor Markup rates vary. How can I reflect their individual rates within the Print Estimate form?
A. First, calculate the Vendor Quote plus their respective Markup. Enter the overall figure into the Vendor Quote field. [Don't check the Markup box for the respective line item as CurrentTrack will apply the Client's default Markup as well.] Your figure will be carried through, with Tax (if applicable), into the Our Quote field. Simply make a notation within the Notes field indicating that the Vendor Quote figure includes their respective Markup as well.Q. Under the new tax law, were required to apply tax to the Gross amount of goods. How do I do that within CurrentTrack?
A. If you have a Net amount of $100.00, multiply it times your standard Markup (e.g. 25%). Multiply the resulting Gross amount times your state sales tax rate (e.g. 5%). The final figure is the "new" Markup rate that should be entered in the respective Client's Spec Sheet (e.g. 100.00 x 1.25 = 125.00 x 1.05 = 1.3125). When you submit a Purchase Order under the Client, CurrentTrack will automatically apply the "new" rate upon submission and therefore compensate for Gross Markup.NOTE: Dont click the Tax boxes beside your line items as its automatically included in the Markup calculation. [To avoid miscalculation, you may want to change the Tax rates of certain printing vendors, for example, to 0.00.] The same is true of the Production Estimate -- don't click the Tax boxes beside the respective line items. Its automatically included in the Markup calculation once you click the line item's Markup box. The above example allows you to see "5% tax on Gross if you're marking up by 25%.
Q. We apply different Markup rates to the various Work Code Sub-Items within our Production Estimate form. How do I do that within CurrentTrack?
A. The Production Estimate form was originally built around the more common practice of marking up everything at the same Client rate. To apply one Markup rate to one Sub-Item and another to the next, simply calculate the Gross cost and enter it into the Hours/Cost field of the Outsourced item. Keep in mind that the Net Cost figure beside it won't actually be Net. It'll be Gross. And, if your Client has a Markup rate in its Spec Sheet, and you click the Markup box of the Estimate line item, the additional Markup will be applied.
